On Thursday, July 22, 2021, President Uhuru Kenyatta surprised Eunice Wanjiku and her daughter Esther Nyambura with gifts in Gakoe village, Kiambu County.

The family received two expectant cows, which were delivered by Kiambu County Commissioner Wilson Wanyaga.

The surprise came after a photo of Nyambura, her daughter, and the president went viral last week, following a chance meeting at the Gakoe Water Treatment Plant.

During the meeting, Nyambura had requested the president to provide her family with a cow, saying it would help them cater to their needs.

She added that her daughter's husband had died, forcing her back home with their two children, and that she had been struggling to take care of them.

"At first I was scared to approach him as he had been surrounded by bodyguards," Wanjiku stated. "He, however, instructed us not to leave until we shared a conversation. When he finished touring the site, I went to him and shared my family's plight," she added.

Some villagers had thought that Nyambura was too modest with her request to the president, suggesting that they would have asked for money, land, or a house.

"I would not have allowed Uhuru to leave without catering to my needs which would include a 5-acre piece of land, a five-bedroomed house, Ksh10 million funds," a resident stated.
