On July 19, 2021, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Eldoret launched a raid on a rented house, uncovering a significant drug trafficking operation.
During the operation, detectives recovered 7kg of heroin and 15kg of bhang, believed to have originated from Ethiopia.
Two suspects, Brian Taabu Owuor, 26, and Cecilia Kefa, 22, were apprehended and found to have been receiving parcels containing illicit substances via the Easy Coach bus service and the North Rift shuttle.
A thorough search of the premises yielded two sacks containing 15kg of Cannabis Sativa, 53 sachets of heroin, two national ID cards, 74 rolls of bhang, and two mobile phones, among other items.
According to a police report, an analysis of Owuor's phone revealed that he had been sending money via M-Pesa to senior police officers in Eldoret.
Further investigations revealed that the drugs were being sent from Nairobi to Eldoret, where they were then distributed to other locations, including Lolwe estate in Kisumu, with the knowledge and complicity of some rogue officers.
