Published on July 19, 2021, the Nairobi Expressway project is making significant progress, with the contractor working diligently to meet the revised deadline.

According to James Macharia, the Transport and Infrastructure Cabinet Secretary, the contractor has been pushed to deliver the project earlier than scheduled to alleviate the suffering of motorists caused by massive traffic jams on the Mombasa road.

The Interior Ministry has provided round-the-clock security to the contractor to facilitate the completion of the project.

The 27.1-kilometer Nairobi Expressway will begin at Mlolongo and extend to JKIA, with a four-lane and six-lane dual carriageway on Mombasa Road, Uhuru Highway, and Waiyaki Way, featuring ten interchange links.

The elevated expressway will run from Ole Sereni Hotel through the city center along Uhuru Highway to James Gichuru, with University Way, Haile Selassie Road, and Kenyatta Avenue running below it.

Executed under the public-private partnership (PPP) model, the project is being undertaken by the Chinese firm, China Roads and Bridges Company (CRBC), at a cost of US$ 560 million.
