On July 16, 2021, a dramatic scene unfolded in Milimani Law Courts when a 33-year-old man, Anthoney Baraza Okumu alias Rajab Omar Okumu, broke down in tears after being charged with gambling in public.

According to the charge sheet, Anthoney was found gambling in a public place at the country bus in Nairobi on the same day. He was also charged with giving false information to the police at the time of his arrest.

Anthoney pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Caroline Muthoni and was released on a cash bail of Ksh50,000. However, his emotional state was a stark contrast to the calmness of the courtroom.

As he was being dragged away by police to the courts' basement cells, Anthoney shouted in tears, 'Mtoto Wangu!' (My child!), claiming his 2-year-old son had disappeared at the Bus Station during his arrest.
