Pop star Britney Spears has made it clear she will not perform on stage again while her father, Jamie Spears, controls her career. In a lengthy Instagram post, Spears expressed her frustration with the 13-year conservatorship that has been in place since 2008.

Spears, 39, has been under the conservatorship since 2008, which gives her father sole control over her $60 million estate. She has not performed in public since late 2018 and has been open about her undisclosed mental health issues.

Spears has appointed a new lawyer to represent her in her bid to bring the conservatorship to an end, calling it abusive. She has expressed her disappointment with documentaries that have brought up humiliating moments from her past, stating she is "way past all that and have been for a long time".

One of the documentaries, "Framing Britney Spears," brought wider attention to the conservatorship and swelled public support for Spears. It was nominated this week for two Emmy awards.

The next court hearing is scheduled for September 29 in Los Angeles, where Spears and her lawyer will yet to file a formal request to end the conservatorship.
