On July 18, 2021, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, in partnership with the East African University, launched a model modern tree seedlings nursery in Kajiado County. The nursery aims to produce and supply seedlings for the region and beyond.

Environment and Forestry Cabinet Secretary Keriako Tobiko emphasized the importance of tree conservation, stating that the most critical aspect is not planting trees but ensuring they grow to maturity. He urged organizations to support the youth and women in establishing nurseries and buying seedlings from them to provide a livelihood.

During the tree planting exercise at the East African University in Kitengela, 2,500 tree seedlings were planted. The university's Vice Chancellor, Prof. Thomas Senaji, expressed his commitment to environmental conservation through annual tree planting events and other activities.

Isinya Sub County Deputy County Commissioner Justus Musau called on residents to take urgent steps to reverse environmental degradation, citing the real effects of climate change.
