Warehouse Fire Engulfs Mombasa Road Building

A fire broke out on Sunday, July 18, 2021, at the Golden Lion Battery warehouse behind Sinotruk's Howo Building along Mombasa Road in Nairobi, next to Tuskys Headquarters.

The fire, which was visible from a distance, towered over the building and sky, indicating its severity.

A staff member of the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) noted that the dark and heavy smoke affected the flight approach path of the neighbouring Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

Firefighters responded promptly, and at the time of publishing, they were working to contain the situation.

This was the latest in a series of major fires in the city, including the Gatakaini Building in Nairobi's Central Business District (CBD) on Friday, July 16, and the home of political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi on July 14.

Established in 2018, the Disaster Management Sector is responsible for disaster risk and crisis management, including incidents of fire.
