Kenya's diaspora community has once again proven its resilience, sending home a record Sh33 billion in June, new data from the Central Bank of Kenya shows.

Published on July 18, 2021, the data reveals a significant reduction from the Sh34 billion sent in May 2021, which marked the first time inflows crossed the $300 million mark.

Despite the pandemic, Kenyans abroad have consistently sent home substantial amounts, with the cumulative inflows in the 12 months to June 2021 totaling USD 3,383 million, a 20.4 percent increase from the same period in 2020.

The United States remains the largest source of remittances into Kenya, accounting for 58.8 percent of remittances in June 2021.

Remittances have played a crucial role in providing livelihoods to low-income households in the country, with diaspora inflows remaining Kenya's largest source of foreign exchange since 2015.
