On July 18, 2021, a devastating fuel tanker explosion occurred along the Kisumu-Busia highway in Siaya County, claiming the lives of 13 people.
The tanker, which had been involved in an accident, was being siphoned by residents who took advantage of the absence of police officers.
According to Gem OCPD Mosero Chacha, the residents' actions led to the explosion, which also left 11 people nursing injuries at the Yala Sub-County Hospital in Gem.
