On July 18, 2021, Mbeere South police boss Gregory Mutiso revealed that Irungu Njaro, brother of the late Kikuyu musician George Wanjaro, had died by suicide at Masinga Dam.
The cause of death was attributed to a Sh. 700,000 debt that the singer had accumulated, which he had been struggling to repay.
Njaro was found dead four days after he disappeared from his Kasarani home in Nairobi on July 14, 2021.
His body was discovered floating in the dam by residents and taken to Embu Referral Hospital mortuary.
The Wanjaro family had previously made headlines in 2007 following the death of George Wanjaro, with his wife Maureen accusing the family of disinheriting her and taking away her sources of livelihood.
