Mobile App use in Kenya rises by 29%

Published on July 18, 2021, a report by Google and AppsFlyer revealed that Kenya has seen a significant increase in mobile app use, with a 29% rise in utility for the period ending 2021.

The report, which analyzed 6,000 applications, found that the growth in the fintech space and the introduction of superior applications have contributed to the rise of super apps in the country.

Speaking to Cathrine Khasoa of Optiven Group, Head Of Communications & Public Affairs, Africa · Google Ms. Dorothy Ooko noted that the report was a result of findings of 6,000 applications.

According to the report, financial and gaming apps were the most downloaded, with non-gaming apps installed at a rate of 40%. The outcome of these downloads positively affected the bottomline, with in-app purchasing revenue in Kenya surging by 74% between the first quarter of 2020 and quarter 1 of 2021.

Optiven CEO George Wachiuri commended the development, noting that the future is not only technologically advanced but it will definitely favour companies that have adapted automation.

The Shamba Mkononi App by Optiven, launched on November 1st 2019, has been a game changer in the real estate sector in Kenya, allowing users to purchase land at the comfort of their homes and at the touch of a button.
