On Saturday evening, July 17, 2021, Egyptian football giants Al Ahly successfully defended their TotalEnergies CAF Champions League crown, securing their 10th overall title with a 3-0 win over 10-man Kaizer Chiefs in Casablanca.

Goals from Mohamed Sherif, Magdy Afsha, and Mohamed Elsoulia handed Ahly the title, with Chiefs having to play the second half with 10 men after Happy Mashiane was sent off at halftime.

Head coach Pitso Mosimane celebrated his third Champions League title as a coach and second with Ahly, having led them to the crown last season.

The turning point of the game came at halftime when Mashiane was sent off for a studs-up foul on Tawfik Akram, initially yellow-carded but later upgraded to a red card by the Video Assistant Referees.

Al Ahly took advantage of the numerical strength in the second half, breaking the deadlock just eight minutes in with Akram sending Sherif through with a pass and the forward dinking the ball over the onrushing Daniel Akpeyi.

The Red Devils made it 2-0 in the 64th minute with a quick counter attack, and 10 minutes later, it was game over for Chiefs as Ahly got their third off another quickly executed play.
