On July 1, 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta and South Sudan's President Salva Kiir signed an agreement at State House, Nairobi, to strengthen trade ties between the two nations.

As part of the agreement, Kenya will allocate 10 acres of land to South Sudan for the construction of a dry port at the Naivasha Industrial Park.

The dry port will significantly reduce the journey time for South Sudan to collect and clear goods destined for Juba, currently transported through Mombasa.

President Kenyatta stated, 'To further ease the movement of goods consigned to South Sudan, the Kenya government has set aside 10 acres of land at the Inland Container Depot in Naivasha Industrial Park, for use as a dry port by South Sudan.'

This move follows a similar agreement with Uganda in March 2019, where Kenya allocated land for the construction of a dry port in Naivasha.

Kenya and South Sudan are also working to complete the Lamu Port South Sudan Ethiopia (LAPSSET) projects, including transnational highways, oil pipelines, and the Lamu Port.

President Kenyatta announced that the first berth of the Lamu Port will be ready by August 2019, with Berths 2 and 3 expected to be completed by 2020.

Additionally, Kenya and South Sudan will accelerate the implementation of the LAPSSET Corridor Highway and deepen trade ties through a trade expo in Juba this year.
