Kenya Records 723 New COVID-19 Cases, Positivity Rate at 10.5%

On Saturday, July 17, the Ministry of Health announced that 723 people had tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, taking the total confirmed positive cases to 192,435.

The virus positivity rate stood at 10.5 per cent, with 678 of the new cases being Kenyans and 45 foreigners. The cases comprised 377 females and 346 males, with the youngest being a seven-month-old baby and the oldest 98 years old.

According to the Ministry of Health, Kenya has conducted 2,050,236 COVID-19 tests since the first case was announced in March 2021. Of these, 1,150 patients were admitted to various health facilities across the country, while 4,346 were under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.

Additionally, 130 patients were in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), with 41 on ventilatory support and 60 on supplemental oxygen, as per the Ministry's statement.

The new cases were reported in various counties, including Nairobi (229 cases), Nyeri (86), Kiambu (72), Mombasa (67), and others.

Meanwhile, 1,139 patients have recovered from the disease, with 1,084 of the new recoveries coming from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program and 55 from various health facilities across the country.
