On July 13, 2021, a disciplinary committee at Kisumu Girls' High School made a decision that would change the lives of three students forever. The committee, led by the school's administration, had been investigating allegations of lesbianism among the students. The outcome was devastating: the three students were expelled from the school.

But the students and their parents were not about to go quietly into the night. They protested the decision, calling it unlawful and discriminatory. In an interview with the Standard Group, the parents and students denied the allegations, saying they were orchestrated by some students and teachers to wrongfully punish them.

According to the students, the trouble started on June 27, 2021, when some learners made noise and accused 16 of their colleagues of engaging in unnatural behavior. The 16 students were later summoned by the administration and forced to reveal their matches. The students were then called before a disciplinary committee and suspended.

One of the expelled students claimed, 'We were forced to reveal our matches and if you didn’t mention your partner they made us have matches.' Another student said, 'Since the allegations, my life at school has been unbearable. I have been neglected, isolated and at some point assaulted.'

The parents of the expelled students are demanding justice and calling for an independent investigation into the allegations. They claim that there is no evidence to support the claims of lesbianism and that the school's decision was a form of mob justice.
