Italy's President Sergio Mattarella has awarded honours to the country's Euro 2020 winning football team, a testament to their remarkable achievement in the European championship.
On July 16, 2021, the President conferred the 'Order of Merit of the Italian Republic' honours on coach Roberto Mancini and his team, in recognition of their sporting values and national spirit that animated their victory.
The honours were bestowed upon Mancini, Italian FA president Gabriele Gravina, team manager Gabriele Oriali, head of delegation Gianluca Vialli, and captain Giorgio Chiellini, who were awarded 'Grand Officer of the Republic', 'Commander of the Republic', and 'Officer' honours respectively.
Additionally, the entire team was conferred the honour of 'Cavaliere' (Knights) for their outstanding achievement.
Italy's victory marked their first title since 1968, with a thrilling win over England in a penalty shootout in London.
