On July 16, 2021, the body of fugitive cop Caroline Jemutai Kangogo was found inside a bathroom at her parents' home in Elgeyo Marakwet. The discovery sparked a flurry of questions and doubts about the official suicide theory.

A forensic expert attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) pointed out several inconsistencies in the scene, including the lack of drag marks on the compound and the peaceful position in which Kangogo's body was found.

“Death is painful, and there is no way the woman's body would be so composed, seated like she died peacefully, holding a gun in her hand and the other hand in her pockets,” the expert questioned.

The expert also noted that the Ceska gun used in the alleged suicide is not a silencer and would have produced some sound, raising questions about how Kangogo's family failed to hear the shooting, despite being just 40 meters away.

Furthermore, the expert disputed the claim that Kangogo's hand was still holding the gun, citing the force involved in the shooting and the fact that the scene was a small room.

“There is no way the gun would remain in her hand, it would fall down because of the force involved in the shooting,” the expert argued.

Additionally, the expert questioned the lack of blood spatters at the scene, given that Kangogo allegedly shot herself in the chin. The expert also noted that a spent cartridge would be found at the crime scene, but in this case, it was unclear where the exit was.

Another expert, George Musamali, a security consultant and former GSU officer, advised that the families should invest in private investigators and not rely solely on police findings. Musamali also suggested that an inquest be launched to eliminate or answer the doubts surrounding Kangogo's death.
