On July 16, 2021, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) announced John Njuguna Wanjiku as the winner of the Kiambaa by-election, a victory that came with a narrow margin of 510 votes.

Njuguna garnered 21,773 votes, while his closest rival, Jubilee's Kariri Njama, secured 21,263 votes.

The vote count had been marred by controversy, with Jubilee party agents disputing the results from certain polling stations and demanding a recount in areas such as Muchatha and Kawaida.

However, the IEBC returning officer, Peter Muiga, ordered police to clear the tallying centre after the protest turned violent.

Meanwhile, in a separate by-election held in the Muguga Ward, Jubilee candidate Githinji Mung'ara emerged victorious, with UDA candidate Kamau Thumbi coming in second.

Thumbi graciously conceded defeat, wishing his competitor all the best as he executes his mandate.

"My good friends and family, I take this opportunity to thank each one of you for the great unwavering support you have bestowed on me during the just ended Muguga ward by-elections. In every competition, there must be a winner. This was not my time so I take this opportunity to congratulate the winner and wish him well," he wrote on social media.
