On July 1, 2019, Kenya's women's basketball team secured a spot in the Fiba Afro Basket Championships set to take place in Senegal in August.
This achievement came after Fiba Africa granted a wild card to Zone Five due to its competitiveness, allowing the zone to present two teams at the African championships final tour.
Although Kenya qualified for the Fiba Afro Basket Championships, the team missed out on a spot in the African Games in Morocco, where Zone Five will be represented by Egypt.
The Kenyan team's performance in the African Games qualifiers was marred by a 72-90 loss to Egypt in the finals, which concluded at the Lugogo Indoor courts on Monday.
Kenya's head coach, Ronnie Owino, attributed the team's loss to a lack of psyche among the players, stating, "We just played badly and did not in anyway deserve to win."
