Published on July 16, 2021, Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has made a bold statement about Deputy President William Ruto's chances in the 2022 elections.
According to Waiguru, Ruto needs more than 100 per cent of Mt Kenya support to win the presidency, a claim that may raise eyebrows in the region.
Waiguru's statement comes after the United Democratic Alliance party candidate, Njuguna Wanjiku, narrowly won the Kiambaa by-election against Jubilee's Kariri Njama.
Although Wanjiku's victory may seem like a triumph for UDA, Waiguru believes it is the best the party can do in Central Kenya.
Waiguru also expressed concerns about the Jubilee Party, stating that its core supporters are unhappy and urgent action is needed to prevent further decline.
IEBC results show that Wanjiku garnered 21,773 votes, while Njama trailed closely behind with 21,263 votes.
However, in a separate by-election, Joseph Githinji of the Jubilee Party won the Muguga Ward seat, narrowly defeating UDA's Peter Kamau.
