On July 1, 2019, World Bank Vice President for Africa Hafez Ghanem visited President Uhuru Kenyatta at State House, Nairobi, to discuss the institution's support for Kenya's Big 4 development blueprint.
Mr. Ghanem emphasized the World Bank's commitment to supporting Kenya in advancing the Big 4 Agenda, both technically and financially.
"The World Bank is committed to supporting Kenya in advancing the Big 4 Agenda both in technical and financial cooperation," Mr. Ghanem said.
President Kenyatta praised the collaboration between his administration and the World Bank, citing the successful implementation of projects that have positively impacted the lives of Kenyans.
The two leaders also discussed the World Bank's Development Policy Operations (DPO), infrastructure, climate-smart agriculture, and the digital economy.
They agreed on the need to scale up infrastructure projects in the Horn of Africa to resettle Somali refugees and boost security in Somalia.
President Kenyatta urged the World Bank to maintain its commitment to development projects in the region, despite challenges in some countries.
The World Bank Vice President commended Kenya for leading the East African region in the digital economy and announced plans to develop a digital market in East Africa, starting with Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda.
