On the fateful morning of Friday, July 16, 2021, Caroline Kangogo arrived at her parents' home in Anin, Elgeyo Marakwet, between Thursday evening and Friday dawn, according to Rift Valley Regional Commissioner George Natembeya.

However, Kangogo did not go inside the house to meet her parents, and instead, her parents reportedly saw her in the compound. Natembeya explained that it appeared that Kangogo might have shot herself in the head.

At around 7:30 am, Kangogo went to one of the bathrooms located outside her parents' house and shot herself dead, bringing an end to her life.

Earlier reports had suggested that Kangogo might have been spotted at Iten by a matatu driver on Thursday, who described her as shy and hiding her face when he spoke with her. The driver had also noted that Kangogo stood behind his matatu for a while before leaving and later boarding another matatu.

It was also revealed that Kangogo was found in the same clothes she had worn when she was captured by CCTV at the murder scene of her second victim, contradicting earlier reports that she might have been moving around in a BuiBui.
