On July 16, 2021, Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho hosted Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru at the Coast, where they engaged in a round of golf and discussed matters of national importance.
According to Joho, it was good catching up with his Kirinyaga counterpart, and they took time to discuss matters of national importance.
Waiguru added that she was honored to be hosted by Joho and that they enjoyed a round of golf as they discussed inter-county collaboration and compared notes on matters of national importance.
The meeting has sparked speculation that Joho is courting Waiguru to be his presidential running mate ahead of the 2022 General Elections.
While Joho has declared his interest in the presidency, Waiguru has stated that her plan is to defend her seat in the 2022 elections.
She also rebuffed claims that she is having talks with presidential hopefuls for a running mate post, saying that she has not sat with anyone to discuss the running mate question.
