On July 14, 2021, a disturbing incident of rape occurred at a private health facility in Karaba, Mbeere South Subcounty, Embu County.
A 20-year-old form one student had been admitted to Ngurumbani Medical Centre for treatment after developing abdominal pains.
According to the girl's father, the nurse was supposed to examine her to ascertain the problem, but instead, he administered a certain jab and told her that he needed close monitoring.
The nurse allegedly lured the girl to his house at night, claiming that he needed to keep a close eye on her due to the reaction of the drug administered.
It is alleged that the nurse then raped the girl, who later opened up to one of her father's daughters-in-law about the incident.
The police were informed, and the suspect was arrested and is currently being held at Karaba police station.
Police are also investigating whether the nurse had administered sedative medicine to the girl before raping her.
