Everyday Habits That Wrinkle Your Skin ¶
Published on July 14, 2021
Developing fine lines and wrinkles is a natural part of aging, but certain daily habits can accelerate the process. From the way we sleep to the way we drink water, our daily routines can have a significant impact on our skin's health.
Here are four common habits that can lead to wrinkles and how to break them:
1. Sleeping on Your Side or Tummy ¶
Most people sleep on their side with an arm overhead, a position known as the lateral sleeping position. While this position has its benefits, it can also cause facial wrinkles due to the pressure on the face.
Experts recommend sleeping on your back, as it is the best position to prevent wrinkles and sagging breasts.
2. Rubbing Your Eyes ¶
The skin around your eyes is thin and delicate, making it prone to dryness and wrinkles. Rubbing your eyes can exacerbate this issue, leading to crow's feet and brow furrowing.
Instead of rubbing your eyes, try placing cool cucumber slices or green/black tea bags on your eyes to soothe them and reduce puffiness.
3. Chewing Gum ¶
Chewing gum may have its benefits, but it can also lead to facial wrinkling. The repetitive motion of chewing can cause lines and folds around the mouth due to muscle overuse.
Experts believe that chewing gum promotes muscle over-activity and potentially breaks down support tissue within the skin, contributing to volume loss and loss of skin elasticity.
4. Drinking from Water Bottles ¶
Drinking water is essential for our health, but the way we drink it can also contribute to wrinkles. The repetitive motions of drinking from a water bottle can cause deep lines around your mouth.
Experts recommend ditching conventional narrow-mouthed water bottles for wide-mouthed ones and drinking out of glasses or mugs to keep wrinkles at bay.
