Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company has announced a 24-hour water supply cut for parts of the city, starting from Thursday, July 15, 2021, at 6:00 am and ending on Friday, July 16, 2021, at 6:00 am.

The affected areas include the University of Nairobi main campus, Coca Cola factory, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, and EPZ in Athi River, as well as the Industrial Area, City Stadium, Maringo, Bahati, Buruburu, and their surrounding estates.

The water supply pipeline will be affected due to the ongoing construction of the Nairobi Express Way, which will link the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and James Gichuru Road.

Transport and Infrastructure Cabinet Secretary James Macharia stated that the Express Way will be ready by February 2022, after being initially announced to be ready by September 2022.

On Saturday, July 10, Macharia announced that the Ksh63 billion road was 60 percent complete, noting that the China Roads and Bridges Company (CRBC) was working 24 hours daily.

According to NCWSC, the shutdown will facilitate interconnection of the relocated new and old water pipelines on Uhuru Highway between Haile Selassie avenue and Bunyala road junctions to enable the release of the road corridor to the expressway road contractor.
