Kenya Reports 761 New Covid-19 Cases, Positivity Rate Spikes to 13%

Kenya's Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe reported 761 new Covid-19 infections on Tuesday, with the country's positivity rate spiking to 13%. The total confirmed positive cases now stand at 189,703.

According to the Ministry of Health, Nairobi recorded 189 new cases, followed by Kisumu with 133 cases, and Laikipia with 104 cases. Other counties with significant cases include Uasin Gishu, Nakuru, Mombasa, Kiambu, Kitui, Garissa, Kilifi, and Busia.

On Tuesday, a total of 1,067 patients were admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 4,359 were under the Home Based Isolation and Care program. The Ministry of Health reported 71 more discharged patients who recovered from the disease, bringing the total recoveries to 180,624.

Unfortunately, nine patients have succumbed to the disease, with all deaths reported after conducting facility record audits in April and June 2021. The total Covid-19 fatalities reported in Kenya now stand at 3,732.

As of Tuesday, a total of 1,550,389 vaccines had been administered across the country, with the majority being males. The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose is at 50.7%, with the majority being males at 55%.
