On June 25, 2021, the body of Gabriel Kariuki, a 26-year-old Kenyan man who had been missing from his home in Hartlepool, UK, since May 17, 2021, was found at a beach in Seaton Carew.
According to Cleveland Police, the body was formally identified as that of Gabriel Kariuki, and at the moment, his death is not being treated as suspicious.
Police confirmed that Gabriel's family had been informed and were receiving support from specially trained officers.
A spokesperson from Cleveland Police expressed sympathy to Gabriel's family and friends, saying, 'Our thoughts and sympathy are with all Gabriel's family and friends at this very difficult time.'
Following the tragic news, Gabriel's loved ones started an online fundraising campaign for his funeral, saying he touched their hearts 'in a way we will never be able to describe.'
The GoFundMe appeal for Gabriel went live with a target of Sh1.2 million (£8,000) to help put together a befitting send-off for their 'beautiful boy.'
