On July 13, 2021, Samsung Internet 15.0 beta version was released, introducing several advanced security features to the web browser.
Among the new features are an antitracking innovation, a revamped incognito mode, and a switch to Chromium 90, which reduces data usage when navigating between pages or tabs.
Enhanced Security During Navigation ¶
The beta version of Samsung Internet 15.0 includes a new component that safeguards users against fingerprint collection, a practice where network usage is monitored to associate data about web users.
With the 'upgraded' antitracking innovation, users can shield themselves from this practice, similar to Brave or Firefox.
Additionally, the 'Delete browsing data' menu has been revamped, providing exact instances of what each option allows users to delete, including saved forms or reserved files and images.
Ever Closer to Google Chrome ¶
Version 15.0 is based on Chromium 90, a slight improvement over the Chromium 87 engine present in Samsung Internet 14.
While it does not revolutionize the speed to access sites, the browser supports some newer web APIs and updates itself.
Like Google Chrome, Samsung Internet 15.0 can be declined in the smartphone's home screen widget, providing instant access to the search engine selected in the browser.
Finally, the beta version temporarily caches the web pages users have recently visited, reducing data consumption and improving navigation speed.
At the end of the beta-test period, the official launch of Samsung Internet 15.0 is expected to occur at the end of the summer, with users receiving a notification on their device when the new version is launched.
