South Africa's death toll from days of violence and looting has risen to 32, with 26 of those deaths occurring in KwaZulu-Natal province, according to provincial officials.
On Tuesday, a provincial official confirmed that 22 people had died during the unrest, bringing the national death toll to 32.
President Cyril Ramaphosa deployed troops to help police halt the violence and looting, which was sparked by the jailing of former President Jacob Zuma.
Protests erupted in Zuma's home region of KwaZulu-Natal, where the violence has been most intense.
As of Tuesday, the unrest had been confined to the two most populous provinces of KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng, which houses the economic hub of Johannesburg.
