Published on July 13, 2021, Rwanda's national women's basketball team is set to face Kenya in their opening game of the 2021 Afro-basketball tournament at the Kigali Arena.
The tournament, which will run for five days, features Rwanda, Kenya, South Sudan, and Egypt as the confirmed participating teams.
Under a robin format, the teams will compete against each other, with the overall winner qualifying for the final tournament scheduled to take place from September 17 to 22 in Yaounde, Cameroon.
On Tuesday, Rwanda will face Egypt at 6pm, followed by a match against South Sudan on Wednesday.
Team coach Cheikh Sarr expressed his concerns about finding a niche in the home advantage for qualification, acknowledging the challenge ahead.
The host nation, Cameroon, along with the 2019 women's Afrobasket semi-finalists, including reigning champions Nigeria, runners-up Senegal, and third and fourth-placed Mali and Mozambique, have automatically qualified for this year's edition.
Regional qualifying tournaments across the continent are taking place this month, with the winners from each zone securing a spot in the finals in Cameroon.
The match between Rwanda and Kenya is scheduled for 6pm.
