On July 5, a newborn baby went missing in Gîchûgû Constituency, Kirinyaga County. The infant's body was later found in a 60 feet deep pit latrine belonging to ACK Kîandaî Church.
According to Kirinyaga East Subcounty Police Commander Antony Mbogo, the Kirinyaga county Fire Brigade took over five hours to retrieve the body from the pit latrine.
The remains of the infant are now lying at the Kerugoya Level 4 hospital mortuary.
The mother of the infant, Jenifer Wanjiru, has been arrested and is set to be arraigned at the Gîchûgû law courts on Tuesday.
During an investigation, Wanjiru initially lied about the child's whereabouts, claiming she had drowned the baby and later sold it to a woman in Juja, Kiambu County.
However, the police found out that she had lied to cover up the crime.
