On July 12, 2021, Garissa County Governor Ali Korane signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the International Labour Organization (ILO) Prospect project to create opportunities for youth in the county.

The project aims to benefit host communities by providing employment opportunities, strengthening entrepreneur training, and equipping youths with relevant skills for the job market.

Similar to the Kazi mtaani public employment programme, the project will create opportunities for youths to gain employment and achieve self-sustainability.

According to Governor Korane, unemployment is a major challenge facing youths in the county, and this project will provide a solution by opening up opportunities for the job market.

Caroline Njoke, ILO's chief technical advisor, noted that the project will have a significant impact in addressing the challenges facing the youth in all sub-counties in the county.

Already, several youths have benefited from the project by receiving training in welding at a Nairobi institute.
