On July 8, 2021, a shooting incident occurred at Kiminini Market in Trans Nzoia County, leaving Phanice Chemutai Juma wounded.

Businessman Ken Muyundo, who was arraigned at the Kitale Law Courts on July 12, 2021, denied charges of attempted murder.

Chief Magistrate Julius Ng'ang'a released Muyundo on a bond of Sh500,000 or a cash bail of Sh200,000, citing the suspect's claim of being unwell and needing medical attention.

According to the prosecution, Muyundo shot Chemutai Juma on suspicion that she was fugitive cop Caroline Kangogo, who is being sought in relation to the killing of two men in Nakuru and Thika.

However, Muyundo's lawyer, Cliff Ombeta, expressed optimism that the matter could be resolved out of court, as his client had indicated that he did not intend to cause harm.

The case is set to be mentioned on July 28, 2021.
