On July 5th, 6th, and 7th, 2021, the Mombasa Tea Auction saw a significant increase in the volume of tea offered for sale, with a total of 12.8 million kilograms up for grabs. This marked a 2.2% increase from the 12.6 million kilograms offered during the same period in the previous year, and a 5.2% decrease from the 13.6 million kilograms sold during the previous sale.
Despite the slight decrease in volume, the auction still managed to sell a substantial 11.7 million kilograms of tea, a 10.5% increase from the 10.5 million kilograms sold during the same period in the previous year, and a 1.7% increase from the 11.9 million kilograms sold during the previous sale.
The auction also recorded a slight increase in prices, with the average sale price per kilogram rising to $1.66, up from $1.64 during the previous sale held on June 28th, 29th, and 30th, 2021. However, this was still lower than the $1.73 average sale price per kilogram recorded during the same period in the previous year.
