On June 21, 2021, a senior police officer based in Masalani Police Station in Garissa resumed work after his annual leave. However, his return to duty was short-lived as he soon developed a mental disorder.

According to a police report, Justin Nyaga's mental condition deteriorated over time, and his sudden change in behavior, attitude, and emotions was evident to his colleagues.

‘This was evident by an abrupt change in his dressing style, incoherent speech, lack of sleep, display of violent behavior, and general ways of personal conduct,' a police report seen by K24 Digital reads.

Nyaga has since been rushed to Garissa General Hospital for medical attention and has received two jabs to stabilize his condition. He is awaiting referral to Chiromo hospital in Nairobi for further treatment.
