On June 21, 2021, a senior police officer in Garissa returned from his annual leave, but his return to work was short-lived.
Justin Nyaga, a senior officer based at Masalani Police Station, reportedly developed a mental disorder while on duty, with his condition deteriorating over time.
According to a police report, Nyaga's behavior, attitude, and emotions changed abruptly, with visible signs including a change in his dressing style, incoherent speech, lack of sleep, and violent behavior.
As a result, Nyaga was rushed to Garissa General Hospital for medical attention and has since been administered two jabs to stabilize his condition.
He is awaiting referral to Chiromo hospital in Nairobi for further treatment.
