Published on July 11, 2021, Italy's clash with England at Wembley on Sunday will be watched by Denmark and Spain, who will be spectators in the Euro 2020 tournament.

Unlike the World Cup, Euro 2020 does not have a third-place play-off game, a format that was scrapped in the 1980s.

The European tournament is the only main international competition without a match to decide the third-placed team, unlike the Copa America and The African Cup of Nations.

Interestingly, third-place play-offs were a feature of the tournament from 1960 to 1980, but were later abolished due to poor viewing figures.

The decision to scrap the match was likely influenced by a lack of interest from the public, both in terms of spectators in the stadium and viewers watching on TV.
