On July 5, 2021, a disturbing incident occurred in Kagira, Dagoreti sub-county, Nairobi County. Esther Wanjiku Githae, 36, allegedly assaulted her husband, Peter Kariuki, causing bodily injury.

According to a police report, the husband knocked on the door at around 9 pm, and upon opening it, his wife splattered hot water on his face and chest. The complainant was left with no choice but to seek refuge at a neighbour's house for the night.

The next morning, Peter Kariuki reported the incident at Matini Police Post and sought medical attention at Riruta Health Centre, where he was treated and released.

On July 7, 2021, neighbours informed the OCS Kabete about their concerns that Esther Wanjiku Githae might evade justice. The OCS then dispatched police officers who arrested her.

Esther Wanjiku Githae appeared before Kibera Senior Principal Magistrate Monica Maroro and pleaded not guilty. She was granted a cash bail of Ksh 10,000 with an alternative bond of Ksh 20,000.

Magistrate Monica Mararo ruled, 'I have considered the fact that the accused has denied the offence, and the prosecution has not objected to the release of the suspect on bail. I, therefore, grant her a cash bail of Ksh 10,000 with an alternative bond of Ksh 20,000.'
