On July 8, 2021, Winfred Kingori, the mother of Ivy Wangeci, appeared before the Eldoret High Court to testify in the murder case against Naftali Njami Kinuthia. The case, which has seen five failed attempts, finally kicked off after Kinuthia was accused of killing Ivy, a Moi University medical student, on April 9, 2019.

Winfred Waithera, Ivy's mother, disputed claims that Kinuthia was her daughter's boyfriend, who showered her with goodies. She stated that she only knew Kinuthia as a pupil who attended Joyland Academy with her daughter before she transferred to another school.

Waithera maintained that she and Ivy's father always provided for their daughter's academic and basic needs, and that they had not introduced any man as her boyfriend. She also stated that she had communicated with Ivy two days before her murder and had not reported any threats to her by anyone.

Dr. Andrew Koinange, a classmate of Ivy's, testified that he was walking with her when the accused attacked her with an axe. He recounted that he saw someone creeping behind him, holding an axe, and that Ivy fell down after he tripped and turned back.

Dr. Benson Macharia, a pathologist at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, stated that the autopsy conducted on Ivy showed that she suffered deep cuts on the left side of her head and neck, and that the cause of death was hypovolemic shock due to excessive bleeding.
