January 10, 2020, marked a significant milestone for Eric Kapaito, the Kariobangi Sharks FC striker, as he scored his first goal in their FKF PL match against Gor Mahia FC at Kasarani Stadium Grounds.
Fast forward to the present, Kapaito is leading the league's top-scoring chart with 18 goals, surpassing his 2018 golden boot winner of 16 goals.
As round 25 of the Football Kenya Federation Premier League continues, all eyes will be on Kapaito when fifth-placed Kariobangi Sharks travel to play Posta Rangers at Ruaraka Grounds.
Despite Sharks' mixed results in recent weeks, Kapaito has been getting the goals, and stakes will be high at Ruaraka where fans will be waiting to see if he will be breaking the 20-goal barrier mark.
Only a select few have achieved this feat in the Kenyan football league, with Boniface Ambani, Jesse Were, and Allan Wanga being the only ones to have scored more than 20 goals in a single season.
Wanga achieved this in 2007 with 23 goals, Were in 2016 with 21 goals, and Ambani in 2006 with 26 goals.
For Kapaito, a win against Posta Rangers will see Kariobangi Sharks narrow the gap to Gor Mahia, who are currently five points ahead.
On the other hand, Ulinzi Stars will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing two-match performance when they take on Nairobi City Stars at ASK Showground in Nakuru.
Mathare United, meanwhile, will be hoping to get out of the relegation zone with a win over Kakamega Homeboyz, who are coming from an impressive 3-1 win over Ulinzi.
