On July 9, 2021, the Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) issued a public notice warning motorists of a two-day traffic disruption on the Nairobi-Nakuru highway.
According to the notice, the disruption will occur between Saturday, July 10, at 10pm and Monday, July 12, at 4pm, to allow for the demolition of the old Gilgil toll station.
KeNHA Director General Engineer Peter Mundinia explained that the toll plaza at the middle of the carriageway will be pulled down, but the weighbridges will remain in place.
Motorists have been advised to use alternative routes, including the Njabini flyover near Soko Mjinga Market or the Lanet (Nakuru)-Dundori-Ol Joro Orok-Olkalou-Engineer-Njabibini -Njabini Flyover route.
KeNHA has encouraged all motorists and pedestrians to observe safety measures at the section during the demolition of the toll station.
