On July 6, Alice Njeri's life was threatened by her two sons, Peter Mute Thiong'o and John Gitau Thiong'o, at her home in Kabete, Nairobi.
According to the police report, the brothers, aged 28 and 26, have been making threats and harassing their mother over a period of time.
They allegedly hurled unprintable insults at her, threatened to kill her and her two daughters, and violently demanded food from her while drunk.
The brothers have also been accused of selling her household items, including furniture, and ordering her to vacate their late father's property.
On July 9, the two brothers appeared before principal magistrate Sharon Maroro and denied the charges.
They were released on a surety bond of Sh500,000 and alternative cash bail of a similar amount.
The case will be mentioned on July 20.
