On July 9, 2021, Paris Saint-Germain announced the signing of Spanish defender Sergio Ramos on a two-year free transfer deal.
Ramos, a 35-year-old former Real Madrid captain, left the Spanish club after failing to agree on an extension to his 16-year stay in Madrid. During his time at Real Madrid, he won four Champions League titles and five La Liga trophies.
Despite missing a significant portion of last season due to injuries and being left out of Spain's Euro 2020 squad, Ramos expressed his determination to continue proving himself at the top level.
He joins Paris Saint-Germain after the French Ligue 1 side finished second last season behind champions Lille and were knocked out in the Champions League semi-finals by Manchester City.
“Paris Saint-Germain is a club that has already proven itself at the highest level,” Ramos said. “I want to continue to grow and improve at Paris and help the team to win as many trophies as possible.”
