On July 9, 2021, Safaricom unveiled a Ksh20 million sponsorship for Kenya's Olympics team, marking the company's continued support for the country's athletes.

The funds will be used to provide ceremonial kits for the team, which will represent Kenya at the Tokyo Olympics, scheduled to kick off on July 23, 2021.

According to Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa, the company has always been at the forefront of supporting Kenyan athletes during the Olympics. This year, in addition to providing ceremonial kits, Safaricom will also provide each team member with Ksh10,000 worth of airtime to stay in touch with their families and friends back home.

Ambassador (Dr) Amina Mohamed, Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Heritage, and Culture, thanked Safaricom for their continued support and investment in sports and athletes. She emphasized the Ministry's commitment to partnering with the private sector to uplift the quality and standards of the sports industry in the country.

Kenya is expected to take over 80 athletes to the Olympics, competing in various sports including Athletics, Boxing, Rugby Sevens, Taekwondo, Indoor Volleyball, and Beach Volleyball. The Olympic games were postponed by a year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
