On July 9, 2021, Equity Bank donated Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) to support the fight against Covid-19 in Migori County.

Equity Group Chief Executive Officer Dr James Mwangi handed over the PPEs at Saint Joseph’s Mission Hospital-Ombo, where he emphasized the importance of continuous supply of PPEs to ensure the safety of health workers.

According to Mwangi, the PPEs will be supplied to hospitals for the next 18 months, as part of Equity Group’s efforts to support the fight against Covid-19.

Equity Group had raised Sh 1.7 Billion to fight the Covid-19 pandemic across the country, with Sh 1.4 billion dedicated to fighting the virus and Sh 300 million towards purchasing PPEs for frontline workers.

Equity Group had also donated Sh 85 million to the National Nurses Association to set up a social psychic wellness program for frontline health workers, who are at risk of mental illness due to the stress of handling Covid-19 patients.

Migori County Executive Committee (CEC) member Elijah Odhiambo thanked Equity Group for their support, but cautioned that the county and the nation were on the verge of facing a fourth wave of the pandemic, projected to start in August or October.

At least 60 faith-based health institutions across the country will benefit from the free PPEs, including Saint Camilla’s Mission hospital in Nyatike Sub County and Migori County Referral hospital.
