Published on July 9, 2021, a fire broke out in a residential multi-storey building in Nairobi's Umoja, Innercore estate, leaving the cause of the fire unknown.
Fortunately, eyewitnesses reported no casualties during the incident, which occurred in the evening of the same day.
Ms. Grace Muthoni, a resident in the area, immediately alerted the tenants after seeing heavy smoke billowing from the apartment.
"The fire broke out around 5:30pm. I saw bed sheets on fire in a balcony in the building's fifth floor," Ms. Muthoni recounted.
According to the caretaker of the apartment, a house help and two children in the house where the fire broke out escaped unhurt.
Firefighters from the Fire Rescue and Disaster Management Department of the Nairobi County Government managed to extinguish the fire by 8pm.
