Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa has been handed a reprieve after forensic evidence cleared her of shooting dead a man in a 2019 incident. The report, released on July 9, 2021, found that Jumwa did not pull the trigger.
The investigation implicated Jumwa's bodyguard, Geoffrey Otieno Okuto, in the shooting incident that occurred during the Ganda Ward by-election.
Okuto, who was reportedly also Jumwa's lover, has been served with an application to withdraw his legal services. Jumwa has also asked the court to cancel the bond her daughter stood in surety for Okuto.
Okuto requested the court for more time to find a new lawyer, citing that Jumwa's defense team had instructed them not to represent him.
The court has adjourned the case, pending further investigation and a decision from the Director of Public Prosecution, Noordin Haji.
Jumwa and her bodyguard were charged in 2019 with the murder of Jola, who was killed on October 15, 2019, at the home of Ganda MCA Reuben Katana.
