On Thursday, July 8, 2021, Raila Odinga, the leader of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), appeared on Radio Citizen to address speculation about his 2022 general election plans.

He emphasized that he does not require an endorsement from anyone, including President Uhuru Kenyatta, and that his political career has been centered around serving the people, not seeking endorsements.

‘I am not looking for an endorsement from anyone. I don’t depend on endorsements in my life. My whole political career has been about service to the people not endorsements,’ he said.

Regarding the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), Raila expressed confidence that the constitutional referendum is still on track, despite ongoing petitions.

‘There is still time for a referendum. We have a year to elections. It can be done even if it gets to December…nothing stops us from doing so,’ he said.

He also stated that the outcome of the courts will be respected, and that the ODM team is prepared to accept the verdict, regardless of the decision.
