On Thursday, President Uhuru Kenyatta handed over the national flag to Team Kenya at State House, Nairobi, ahead of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
The President urged the 113-strong contingent to uphold Kenya's reputation in the international community by being disciplined and dignified.
'I ask you to be great ambassadors of our country,' the President said. 'I expect you to work hard and together as Team Kenya towards building a stronger sporting sector and to bring glory to your country.'
Team Kenya will be captained by rugby player Andrew Amonde, who received the flag on behalf of the team from President Kenyatta.
The President reiterated the Government's commitment to sports development, saying it promotes values of hard work and service to the nation.
He congratulated the team on qualifying for the Olympics and wished them success in Japan, saying Kenya is counting on them to win trophies.
President Kenyatta also thanked Team Kenya's sponsors, including East African Breweries (EABL) and Safaricom, for their continued investment in sports.
